EYFS  CURRICULUM  FOR PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Personal Social & Emotional Development – PSED is one of the 3 prime areas of the EYFS curriculum; the others being Communication & Language and Physical Development. These skills begin to develop quickly in response to relationships and experiences, and run through and support learning in all other areas. The prime areas continue to be fundamental throughout the EYFS.

The EYFS PSED curriculum is divided into 3 categories which are Making Relationships, Self-confidence and Self-awareness and Managing Feelings and Behaviour.

We deliver the PSED curriculum by encouraging positive relationships & providing a structured learning environment where our children have opportunities to explore their environment & engage with the people & objects with in it.

Most of our children are working at early levels of the EYFS curriculum

They are working towards the ‘Early Learning Goals’ for each of the categories:

Making Relationships: Children play co-operatively taking turns with others. They take account of one another’s ideas about how to organise their activity. They show sensitivity to others needs and feelings and form positive relationships with adults and other children.

Self-confidence and Self-awareness: Children are confident to try out new activities and say why they like some more than others. They are confident to speak in a familiar group, will talk about their ideas, and will choose the resources they need for their chosen activity. They say when they do or don’t need help

Managing Feelings and Behaviour: Children can talk about how they and others show feelings, talk about their own and others’ behaviour, and its consequences, and know that some behaviour is unacceptable. They can work as part of a group or class and understand and follow the rules. They can adjust their behaviour to different situations and take changes in routine in their stride.

Refer to the document Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for further guidance in PSED for our EYFS pupils.
