- Playdough making is a good activity to develop and use some messy play, cooking and tactile play, science experience, motor skills and when the playdough is made, use it to work with fine motor skills and pre-writing skills (finger isolation, fingers strength, independence of hands). Use the dough and encourage your child to follow simple instructions : rolling it up and down on an even surface, make a ball with one hand then with the other hand, press one finger to make marks on it, roll it along to make it long (as a sausage). We have been practicing this in Silver Class making a little melody for each one of the actions. You can try and use ‘twinkle twinkle little star’ as a tune for them. E.g. “Roll it roll it up and down, keep it rolling, make it round” “Press your fingers in the dough, you will see the holes come out” Get a playdough recipe here.
